This project creates a private outdoor garden area for employees of San Francisco Honda, a sheltered oasis on this busy corner at South Van Ness Avenue and 12th Street.  

The garden is screened with a decorative fence of galvanized steel panels. A new building entry provides direct access to the garden. Planting of palms, citrus, and tree ferns provide a shady canopy, while colorful shrubs and perennials create an appealing understory. Open areas are paved in decomposed granite, a soft surface that is comfortable to walk on and also permeable to rainwater. Natural stone slabs on pedestals are used as rustic tables next to wooden bench seating.
