DeAnza College Child Development Center

DeAnza College Child Development Center    Cupertino, California

Located in a quiet and secluded 5-acre corner of the De Anza College campus, this Child Development Center provides childcare for families affiliated with the college, as well as for the general public. The center accepts children ranging from 18 months to 5 years of age. Miller Company created a landscape design to expand and renew the existing facilities. Our design incorporates areas that were previously unused, including large trees and a gently sloping hillside.

Features include a garden area with raised beds accessible to small children, a circular story bench under a large tulip tree, and a furnished art project area. A shade canvas structure over a low deck serves as performance space and outdoor classroom. The low hillside is transformed with a wood climbing structure and an embankment slide. At the bottom of the hill, a concrete trough with running water invites sensory water play. A wood slat playhouse and additional climbing structures make an attractive destination. New plantings throughout the play areas rejuvenate the understory with native and drought-tolerant species.
