Alice Griffith Block 1 - Phase 3
Alice Griffith Hope SF, Phase 3, Block 1
San Francisco, California
The original Alice Griffith public housing development in San Francisco’s Bayview Neighborhood is undergoing a total transformation. Built in the 1960s as a complex of stand alone duplexes known as Double Rock, the project fell into disrepair and isolation. The new housing development is a series of full-block multi-story residential buildings that will be integrated into a larger, economically mixed neighborhood and feature new housing, office, retail, dining, and entertainment. Miller Company is providing landscape services for Block 1 of this revitalized and transformed public housing project.
Our scope of work includes streetscape landscaping, a large private courtyard, and a privately owned public street that abuts the building. The courtyard design is divided into three main areas offering a playground, an outdoor dining and cooking space, and more intimate gathering respectively. Generous planter beds, filled with drought resistant and flowering plants, envelop the entire courtyard, At street level, each building frontage features its own planting palette, ranging from lush greens to vibrant purple and orange to modern silver and grey. The private public laneway to the project north has stormwater treatment planters, new trees, feature pavers, and custom concrete finishes.
